Developing a protocol for a Cochrane systematic review

Cochrane South Asia aims to improve the quality of health care and health policy in the South Asian region through its activities. As part of its efforts towards capacity-building among health professionals to understand and to conduct systematic reviews, ‘Protocol development workshops’ are held 3 times a year.

When: 2-4 July 2016

Take this three-day session to learn the basic skills of conducting a Cochrane review. Topics include protocols, setting your question, literature searching, study selection, assessing bias, data and analysis, formulating conclusions, and a hands-on session with the Review Manager software.

3rd European Summer School in Evidence-Based Public Health

When: 4-8 July 2016

This Summer School is organized by Pettenkofer School of Public Health at Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität Munich. It is ideal for researchers planning to undertake systematic reviews of public health interventions or working on other aspects of evidence-based public health; mid-career professionals working in public health institutions; and students undertaking a Masters or PhD in Public Health or Epidemiology and wishing to embark on a career in evidence-based public health.

Introduction to writing a systematic review following Cochrane methods

This three-day workshop is designed for authors of intervention reviews who wish to follow Cochrane methods. The workshop provides authors with a comprehensive overview of the methods required to write a protocol and get started on the review.

Evidence-informed public health short course

When: 14-15 July 2016

This two-day practical workshop helps participants develop skills and confidence in using evidence in decision-making and practice. Course areas include defining, searching for, and accessing evidence quickly and easily; assessing the quality and relevance of evidence; applying evidence to planning, practice and policy; and evaluation, practice-based evidence.

Introduction to systematic reviews of health interventions
Where: Melbourne, Australia
When: 1-2 August 2016

This workshop is presented by the Australasian Cochrane Centre, and is based on training provided for authors of Cochrane systematic reviews. The course will take a step-by-step approach to the tasks and methods involved in conducting a systematic review to answer a question about the effects of a health-related intervention, from a simple drug treatment to a complex public health or health systems intervention.

Systematic reviews and meta-analyses of diagnostic test accuracy
Where: Birmingham, UK
When: 7-9 September 2016

This three-day course is organised jointly by faculty from the University of Birmingham and the University of Amsterdam. The course is designed for individuals undertaking health technology assessment, health service researchers and healthcare professionals interested in understanding key issues in the design and conduct of systematic reviews and meta-analyses of diagnostic test accuracy (DTA) studies. The course will be delivered through a mixture of interactive presentations, discussions and hands-on computer exercises.

Critical appraisal of medical studies

Danube University Krems and Cochrane Austria present a workshop on critical apprasial of different study types. Topics will include theoretical foundations of different study types, methodological basics, and practical examples from medical literature. This workshop will show students to do a critical apprasial of a study, and detect bias and manipulations.(workshop in German)

Medical statistics for non-statisticians

This workshop is dedicated to recognition and evaluation of statistical basics. Participants are encouraged to get over the “fear” of statistics in order to critically appraise statistics in science. Workshop in German.
